And they were also able to SUDDENDLY move most of their industrial complex to the Urals mountains before it could be captured. A lot of the losses on the Soviet side were also poorly trained and equipped barely-soldiers drafted sometimes from places relatively faraway, fighting in relatively unfamiliar territory. It was less of a problem than during the Winter War, in which the ridiculous number of Soviet casualities was caused by Stalin's retarded purge of high-ranking experienced officers and use of troops conscripted from places like Central Asia to fight in the brutal Finnish winter for fear of his soldiers deserting due to simpathy and some shared history with the men they were attacking, but that was still present. The Soviet Union didn't go bankrupt because of some American and British supply lines that saved them in critical times(e.g the Iranian Road and the Persian Corridor).

I don't think Russia would try outright annexing Ukraine, but force-vassalizing and diploannexation is a different story altogether.
