Q: What happened to old AoS & other questions? A: Read This!

This is for everyone asking on a daily basis, "Where's classic? What happened to the Beta? Why isn't AoS free anymore? Where are my old posts/mods? What's the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

Ben Aksoy, creator of the original "voxlap" version of Ace of Spades, sold Ace of Spades to Jagex, the game developer best known for "Runescape". The game is now being developed in-house by Jagex.

Ace of Spades 1.0 was released on Steam on 12 Dec. (2012) The base cost of the game is $9.99USD or $9.99/£6.99. While, 1.0 suffered initially from game-breaking lag, a patch was released on the 19th to address the lag and another patch was released on 21 Dec. that introduced new maps, weapons, bugfixes and changes to weapon/item balance.

AoS 1.0 incorporates new "classes" in the game, similar to TF2. While, 1.0 has received criticism for straying away from the original spirit of the game, it has been announced the devs are working on WW1/WW2 game modes for release in January (2013) which will be more faithful to the original game.

If you're interested in contributing suggestions/discussing the pending WW1/2 update, check out the official forum section here to provide feedback to the developers:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/forum ... -II-update

It has also been announced there will be additional future content and map updates.

Some users have reported troubles finding low-ping servers to play on. As of now, servers are supported in US West, US East, Europe and Australia. It is possible, additional servers may be made available in the future.

You can still download the original game here and play it for free. For a list of downloads see:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/showt ... -Downloads

And this site obviously.

You can find the most updated server lists for classic AoS here.

Since, development is still continuing on the original game, it is recommended you check back here regularly.

If you are having issues with the "classic" version of AoS, such as technical problems you should post here, as Jagex cannot provide support for community developed versions of the classic game. If you have been banned from a classic server, you will likely need to contact the website/forum of the server you were banned from.

You should also be aware that while classic AoS is still free to play, hosting servers still costs money and it's not free for those people who are hosting the servers. If you enjoy the game and a particular server, you may want to consider donating to their operating costs.

You can find an archive of the old AoS forum here:
http://forumarchive2.spadille.net/

If you're interested in knowing what has changed since AoS 0.75 and the release of AoS 1.0, you can view a side-by-side comparison of game features here:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/showt ... lassic-AoS

Since, the new AoS uses a more advanced game engine, some people may not be able to play it. You can check if your system meets the minimum requirements here:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/showt ... quirements

The "Can You Run It?" website tool also provides an automated process to check if your system meets the minimum requirements. Simply go here and type in "Ace of Spades" into the search box. You may need to install additional software.

If you have criticisms, suggestions, questions, comments and constructive feedback you are welcome to post it on the official forums but you need to ensure you adhere to forum rules just as players were expected to on the original site. You can see the official Site/Forum Rules for the official forums here:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/showt ... Site-Rules

Spamming/Trolling/Flaming/Harassment/Profanity are all actions that are likely to lead to a forum ban. The website is frequented by young children so if you have some childish personal drama to air out you should keep your racist, homophobic, and sexually explicit comments to yourself. Please, for the love of god if you're gonna spam "F@$* JAGEX!!!!!!" don't mention BuildandShoot. There's already bad blood between Jagex and B&S because of idiots like that who think it's some sort of warcry to spam profanity all over the Jagex forums and then post a link to B&S. B&S doesn't need illiterate morons to advertise it's website. It does just fine without them.

The best way to see positive changes in the new AoS is by providing detailed bug reports, reporting your technical issues and providing constructive feedback and suggestions. Telling Jagex to "fuck themselves" won't get them to change the game or consider your suggestions.

If you are having an issue with the game, it is recommended you check out the Technical Support forum here:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/forum ... al-Support

You can find additional tips/fixes for common issues here:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/showt ... cal-Issues

Instructions for sending bug reports are here:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/showt ... port-a-bug

If you are still having issues with lag/high-ping servers, it is recommended you contact technical support, describe your system specs, server you are attempting to play on and the average ping you are receiving. It is possible this information may be used to provide more server coverage in the future.

Generally, you will need to describe the issue, your system specs and provide a link/copy of your dxdiag.txt and log.txt (from the AoS folder)

If you are having an issue with the website itself, check out the Website Feedback forum:
http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/forum ... al-Support

Nice work putting this together. I've added it to my bot on IRC, so you can type ?? whathappened in #aos or #buildandshoot to get a link here. There tends to be at least one person a week that comes in asking what happened, so now we can just link them to this detailed post. :D

Ace of Spades is a sandbox-style first-person shooter originally developed by former developers of Minecraft. The original developers decided to leave, and Jagex took over the remainder of the development. Its goal is to go against the cliches of most first-person shooters and create a unique experience. It has been in prototype phase for a year, and has already garnered more than one million players. It has been released and is available on Steam for a small, one-time fee.
