If you haven't seen it yet, Jagex is pushing out a PAID DLC for Ace of Spades on Valentine's Day (February 14th). Discuss.

Worst thing ever.

Fix game before shoving DLC down throats.

No. Finish your "Classic AoS" update before making DLC's that cost more than big pieces of the game's mechanics.

Actually, you know what? This is how Jagex studio's does their work. They read constructive comments and ignore them acting like they don't need help from people who aren't in their position. Preferably the last comment on the first page. I'm really disappointed in their economic and communicating skills. Unless they posted something about that comment and learned something about being in a stable stance in development. Unlikey.

Space Inspader, you are son incredibly wrong. Clearly, Jagex is right! You may not know it but you've always ever wanted a Trendy Twenties themed Gangster Update for Ace of Spades, much more than you wanted that silly, annoying classic mode. Honestly, one gun and teamwork, what type of player wants to work strategically with team mates when he can just go BANG BANG BANG with drill guns and rocket launchers? No, you've always wanted a gangster update to Ace of Spades since day one. This update is going to make you so happy and you'll love Jagex forever and ever! Blue_Tongue

I was kind of already assuming this could eventually be happening for this game. DLC? Shallowly quirky themes and lackluster of actual content? Yep, there we go, it took about as long as I thought.

What I don't see is the audience of their version of the game. I mean, who actually buys this stuff? The game doesn't even feel like it has a some kind of core playerbase to rip off some extra buck with paid DLC. Or maybe it does, but the content isn't very diverse to be left for further discussions.

Skins? Practically useless, but charming for a short period of time.
A new character class? Interesting, but considering how well Jagex's classes are done, I don't have very high hopes for this. I'm assuming a some kind of pseudo-efficient gimmicky class such as a spy, or a revisited version of the jetpack guy for an example.
Then comes the weapons, which is a meh considering what DLC guns are these days... and then a couple maps and gamemodes, holy fucking shit - they actually did it then.

So do you actually know why my reaction is a harsh "holy fucking shit" to this whole situation? That pretty much means we can dump the modding and map building schemes down into the hole, and bury it with spade-proof cement, and blow the heck out of it with dynamite. Better nuke it just in case, too.
They want money, and they show constant marks of greediness and questionable game development choices. It's getting worse and worse every time I hear news about Ace of Spades (while cutting out the classic update), and all we can do is just vote with out wallets and begin the next wave of circlejerks about the shitty DLC.

Needless to say, I have lost all the hope for their game, as hyperbolic as it sounds like. I despise companies like Jagex, which are unresponsive and questionable when coming down to marketing and customer satisfaction. This doesn't help it at all. And bragging about Jagex doesn't help us either. I think it's time to move on to a next game (and community) I would get a similar passion into again.

Welp, that's it. I started out thinking maybe Jagex wouldn't be as bad as everyone thought. Now I can't stand them. Please, nobody buy this. Maybe then they will see they did something wrong.

I'm not planning to buy it and I hope to god that on the 14th if I go on Jagex's game (it ain't Ace of Spades, don't refer to it as so) to play some classic (which is unlikely as I run a CTF server now) I will see "Valentines Massacre - Chicago - VIP - 0/24".

Like Bandage I despise Jagex too, I originally came with a fresh attitude towards them (despite all the secrecy and behind the scenes manipulation). I PM'd SallytheButcher and told her that if they would like to use any content I'd made in promoting the game I was fine with it. Then I saw what they were doing with the game and I was horrified. What annoys the most now is that they talk about "better tools for modding, better tools for mapping, their more secure server systems" while at the same time they remove the ability to mod which was still in the initial release, they haven't released any tools for mapping and now they are charging for DLC maps when they have this community filled with members like Influx, SIMOX, Buffet_of_Lies and myself able to pump out high quality maps for free, and their "secure" servers are still hack able, as we've all probably seen.

It's clear that their greed motivates them to do this: they removed modding so we have to pay for their shitty skins, they removed mapping because they would rather charge money for mapping DLC's, and now their rentable server spaces which I will expect to allow you to do no more than set the time, and choose one of their maps and game-modes.

I feel the same way. Jagex has essentially done everything I could have possibly thought of wrong.

Like, pretty much every other game is guilty of the same thing. DLC is part of gaming today guys, I don't see the fuss. I also don't see how this takes maps and modding out of the window, considering modding is already doable, and native map and modding, if not around the corner, would (probably) be somewhat easily doable if someone focused on it.

Also, I laugh when the members of Build and Shoot think of themselves as a major part of the AoS community. I won't lie and say that the site is small, but (especially in the ownership), the public opinion of ourselves is a little too inflated to be talking about Jagex like this, considering we haven't been too nice to them either.

Welp, DLC has ruined any chance of us having custom maps and custom weapon designs.

My standpoint is basically what Bandage said.
