If it's licensed, then yes. If it's not licensed, then no, and I don't think there are any maps/game modes that are licensed. They are also not using any maps that people have not given them consent to use. It's one of the few things they actually did right.
So, in all...

None were copyrighted. They can do that unless it was copyrighted.

They have paided everyone that was needed to be payed, I am sure that only one or two people that jagex talked to didn't want their stuff in 1.0 so they just didn't put that stuff in.

afaik the only people who were paid were the old devs.

No, killawilla let jagex have trenches put in. You don't think they paid him at all? What about simix, yea they screwed his up but I am sure they paid him something for his hard work.

You're making a lot of assumptions here.

Yea but the fact is if they put something in the game they have had to have consulted the owners. I just remembered killawilla talking about money, maps, and jagex.

jdrew, I wasn't paid anything for Trenches, I entered it into the community map competition back in December. That was the only time I actually submitted it into the game. No one at Jagex consulted me about putting the map in after that, I did suggest on some forum posts discussing community maps that I'd like to see some of my maps in 1.0 but no Jagex staff member said anything to me about putting Trenches in classic. The first I saw of it being in the game was when I downloaded the update and saw a server in the server browser running Trenches...
I haven't seen any money, or been offered any, I haven't requested any money either, however I did request in a forum post that I would appreciate if they put
"Original map created by Ki11aWi11" in the server description in the server browser or when you are loading the map while entering a game. Trenches did take about 10-12 hours of work to create, and I would appreciate some credit for it.
Edit:
To clarify, the only thing any Jagex member said to me about my maps was Sally saying good luck in regards to me hopefully winning the map competition, there was no direct communication such as Skype or pm's on the forums about implementing my maps. No one even contacted me and said "hey, Ki11aWi11 we thought we'd let you know we are making trenches one of the maps in the classic mode"...

If that is the case then you should try and get some answers, are you ok with what they did?

Well it is nice having your maps in the game, beats them not being in it, so it isn't like I'm angry. I believe when I entered my maps in the community map competition I probably consented to them being able to use them whether the map won the competition or not maybe even I signed over the rights to them, I didn't care very much, I never planned to make money off them and I not many server hosts run them with 0.75 because I don't think they even realise that there are other maps outside of the ones included in the pyspades folder. In all honesty though, I wish there will still third party servers with 1.0, because then I'd be able to host a server like I used too running all my maps...

To all those people who are saying that maps aren't copyrighted, may I remind you that, in the UK where Jagex are based, copyright automatically applies to any work that requires "some degree of effort, judgement or skill". Now, I'd like to think that those many hours I spent designing and making maps for this game constitute of at least "some degree" of those. Note, that the entry requirements to copyright is low, mainly to prevent people copyrighting things such as individual words.
If Jagex could just pick any map they wanted and place it in game, there'd be many more fan-favourite maps such as Pinpoint and Renaissance Town in v1.0. I think that the only maps brought over from the "prototype" were submitted to the competition beforehand basically confirms that our maps are copyrighted.
To Ki11aWi11; Jagex did state in the terms of the mapping competition that by entering your map, you were allowing them to, and quote, "use your design" (since it's the design of a map that'd be copyrighted, not the map itself). By entering the competition, you're giving Jagex permission to use your map whether it won the competiton or not, since they didn't say that those rights extend only to the winning map. Any map submitted can be given the same treatment.
Althought it would have been courteous of them to notify you that they were going to recreate your map, they weren't required to since you'd already, in effect, gave them permission to use it.
